Groen Licht in België: P1-Poort Digitale Meter Vrijgegeven voor Slim Vermogensbeheer Thuisbatterijen

P1 Port Digital Meter Released for Home Batteries

Belgium Makes Plug-and-Play Home Batteries Easier with P1 Port Release

Home battery owners in Flanders, Wallonia, and Brussels can now use the P1 port of their digital electricity meters for advanced power management . The amendment to the C10/11 regulations by Synergrid (the organization of Belgian grid operators) significantly simplifies installation.

Synergrid states that this change will stimulate the adoption of plug-and-play home batteries and smaller energy storage systems, making Belgian consumers less reliant on costly and complex installation services. Examples of approved systems can be found in our range, such as the Anker Solix X1 hybrid systems and the Zendure SolarFlow systems .

New Synergrid Rules for Small Production Installations

The current Synergrid regulation C10/11 requires every production facility with battery storage to have an active power management system (VMS). Since October 15 , this requirement has been relaxed for *small production facilities*.

In addition to the traditional EnFluRi sensor, the P1 port of the digital meter is now also an accepted means of this power management. This solution is perfectly suited for flexible systems such as the Marstek all-in-one home batteries .

P1 Port: The Key to Ease of Use

The P1 port is a communication connection on the digital meter. A smart P1 dongle can be connected to this. This small device enables direct communication between the home battery and the grid operator's digital meter.

  • Before the change: Owners of battery systems had to have a separate, technical EnFluRi sensor installed in the distribution board – an intervention that was too complex for the average consumer.
  • After the change: The P1 port offers a fast and accessible solution for reading consumption and return.

Major Impact on Plug-in Batteries and Private Individuals

This change is a major victory for the plug-in battery and plug-and-play solar panel segments. Since April 17th, it has been legal in Belgium to connect these systems directly via a plug.

Demand for a simpler asset management system has increased significantly since then. The P1 solution addresses this demand and makes installing this type of DIY storage system significantly more attractive in Belgium .

Large Installations and the Network Study

For larger, more complex installations – typically in the commercial or larger residential sector – the rules remain more flexible, with greater influence from the grid operator:

  • The grid operator retains insight and influence through the mandatory grid study .
  • If necessary, the grid operator may still require an approved power limiting relay (according to list C10/25).

This differentiation ensures that the electricity grid remains protected, while innovation and growth of the *small* energy sector in Belgium are maximally stimulated.
