Collection: WHES commercial energy storage C&I ESS systems for businesses
WHES commercial energy storage comprises battery energy storage systems and commercial battery systems for commercial and industrial sites as well as large-scale energy projects. The portfolio ranges from compact C&I Energy Storage Systems (ESS) starting at 29.9 kW to utility-scale solutions in the MW/MWh range. Depending on the selected system and project architecture, WHES solutions can be used for peak shaving, PV energy storage, energy arbitrage, power management, EV charging infrastructure and selected backup and off-grid applications.
Rebor supports installers, engineers and business customers with the selection and initial sizing of WHES energy storage systems. The assessment considers not only battery capacity in kWh, but also power in kW, load profile, PV generation, grid connection, available grid capacity, operating strategy and any required backup functionality.
Commercial energy storage tailored to your project
Which WHES ESS is suitable for your energy project?
A commercial battery system should not be selected solely on the basis of its kWh capacity. A technically appropriate solution also requires assessment of the required charging and discharging power, duration of power peaks, consumption profile, PV generation, grid capacity, intended operating strategy and any backup requirements. A system intended for peak shaving therefore requires a different kW/kWh ratio from a battery designed for energy arbitrage or longer-duration energy shifting.

Applications of commercial battery energy storage
A commercial Energy Storage System or commercial battery system can perform multiple functions within the same energy installation. Its technical and economic value is determined by the local energy profile, available grid capacity and selected system architecture.
Reduce power peaks by temporarily supplying battery power during periods of high demand.
Store locally generated solar energy and use it later within business operations.
Coordinate charging and discharging times with the selected energy strategy and differences in electricity prices.
Use battery power to actively influence a site's import, export and load profile.
Where grid connection capacity is limited, an ESS can, depending on the load profile and applicable import and export restrictions, be used for local power management and to limit power peaks.
Combine energy storage with charging infrastructure and other energy assets within an integrated energy management strategy.
Where supported by the product and system architecture, battery storage can be designed for selected backup or off-grid applications.
WHES OS EMS — intelligent energy management for C&I and utility
The WHES OS Energy Management System determines how available energy assets are controlled within the configured strategy. According to WHES, the platform combines information including day-ahead and real-time electricity prices, PV generation, load and the electricity grid for forecasting, optimisation and coordinated dispatch.
Supported functions include energy arbitrage, demand charge management and multi-asset dispatch of batteries, PV, EV chargers and generators, AI diagnostics for fault prediction and anomaly detection, and Battery Health Management including State of Health (SOH). WHES also documents a VPP Management System for C&I and utility storage. The availability and applicability of EMS, market and VPP functions depend on the system configuration, region and integration and must be validated for each project.
Sizing, safety and installation
The WHES product documentation specifies the following protection ratings for the respective systems: the PC-mini has IP55 protection for the battery cabinet and IP66 for the inverter; the PC-G1 has IP55 with C5 corrosion class; the PC-G3 has IP55 with C5 corrosion class; and the PA-3.0EU has IP55 at system level. For the PC-G2, the technical specification table states IP55, while the product presentation additionally specifies IP55 for the battery cabinet and IP65 for the PCS. Always consult the current technical documentation to determine the project-specific protection level of the PC-G2.
Fire protection concepts differ by system and configuration. Always consult the official WHES documentation for the relevant system regarding detection, fire suppression, pressure relief and other safety provisions.
For every commercial ESS installation, at least the following project-specific conditions must be assessed: main grid connection and grid capacity, load profile and power peaks, AC protection and cable sizing, installation location and fire safety concept, communication between PCS/BMS/EMS, PV and EV integration, requirements for on-grid, off-grid or EPS operation, and the intended charging and discharging strategy.
Frequently asked questions about WHES commercial energy storage
Technical answers about WHES C&I ESS, commercial battery storage, peak shaving, PV integration, scalability and system selection.
What is a C&I Energy Storage System?
A C&I Energy Storage System is an energy storage system designed for Commercial & Industrial applications. It combines battery storage with power electronics and system control and, depending on the design, can be used for peak shaving, PV energy storage, energy arbitrage, power management and selected backup applications.
Which WHES ESS systems are compared on this page?
This page compares the PC-mini from 29.9–50 kW and 57.34–100.35 kWh, the PC-G1 at 100 kW / 233 kWh, the PC-G3 at 125 kW / 261 kWh and the PC-G2 from 62.5–250 kW / 509 kWh. The WHES documentation also includes the PA-3.0EU with configurations from 744–1,488 kW and approximately 1,490–2,981 kWh.
What is the difference between C&I and utility energy storage?
C&I stands for Commercial & Industrial and refers to energy storage for commercial and industrial sites. The WHES PC-mini, PC-G1, PC-G2 and PC-G3 belong to this system class. The PA-3.0EU is positioned by WHES as a Utility Energy Storage System for projects at MW/MWh scale.
Can a WHES battery be used for peak shaving?
Yes. A commercial ESS can be used for peak shaving by temporarily supplying battery power during periods of high demand, thereby reducing power peaks. Correct sizing requires analysis of both the magnitude and duration of the peak. This means that both the required power in kW and the energy capacity in kWh are relevant.
What is more important for a commercial battery: kW or kWh?
Both are essential. kW determines how much power the battery can absorb or deliver at a given moment. kWh determines how much energy can be stored. Peak shaving may require high power for a short period, while longer-duration energy shifting may require relatively more battery capacity.
Can a WHES ESS operate with solar PV and EV chargers?
WHES OS EMS is designed for coordinated control of multiple energy assets, including energy storage, PV, EV chargers and generators. Communication, protocol support and available functionality must be validated for each project and connected device.
How many kWh of battery storage does a business need?
The required battery capacity cannot be reliably determined from annual electricity consumption alone. Commercial energy storage sizing requires at least the load profile, power peaks, peak duration, PV generation, grid connection, required charging and discharging duration and intended application. A battery designed for peak shaving therefore requires a different kW/kWh ratio from a system intended for several hours of energy shifting.
Have your WHES commercial ESS sized for your project
A professional battery project starts with the energy profile of the site. Rebor supports the initial technical selection of the appropriate WHES C&I or utility product class and the determination of a logical combination of power, battery capacity and system architecture.
For an initial technical assessment, the following project information should preferably be available: main grid connection and contracted power, 15-minute interval data or a detailed consumption profile, existing and/or planned PV capacity, maximum import and export peaks, any EV charging infrastructure and the intended application (peak shaving, energy arbitrage, PV optimisation or backup), required charging and discharging power in kW, required energy capacity or autonomy in kWh, available installation space and any requirements for off-grid or EPS operation.
