Solar Projects & References – Integrated Photovoltaics in Practice
Rebor B.V. combines experience in solar energy with product development, building-integrated system design and practical implementation. One visible result of this expertise is the Loci solar roof: an integrated PV solution in which solar energy generation becomes part of the roof itself.
Over the years, Loci has been applied in a wide range of projects: from detached homes and compact timber houses to serial new-build housing, residential renovation and apartment developments. On this page we present a selection of documented projects and, where available, link directly to independent project documentation and technical sources.
From technical development to completed solar energy projects
An integrated solar roof requires more than selecting a solar module. Roof construction, waterproofing, dimensions, insulation, ventilation, roof penetrations, electrical installation and architecture must be considered as one integrated system.
The projects below show how this system approach has been applied in different building situations. Roles such as client, architect, contractor, installer and supplier are only stated where they can be established from the available project documentation.
Bovenkarspel — 24 apartments with an integrated Loci solar roof
In Bovenkarspel, the Loci system from Rebor was applied in the construction of 24 apartments. The project demonstrates not only the application of integrated PV, but also how practical construction details around a solar roof can be resolved.
For the integration of ventilation and drainage vent penetrations, Rebor, contractor Stabo Bouw and Ubbink worked on a solution in which the roof penetration could be integrated into a Loci dummy panel.
Ubbink independently documented this collaboration and the use of Rebor's Loci system as a project case.
Villa Zandsepad in Lent — architecture and integrated PV
Villa Zandsepad, located near the Lentse Plas close to Nijmegen, is a sculptural, bio-based and energy-efficient home in which the roof forms an important part of the architecture.
The roof surface is fitted with solar panels. Within the Loci installation, active PV modules were combined with custom-made glass sections, allowing energy generation and the architectural design of the roof to be approached as one integrated whole.
ECO Architecten independently documents the project and describes the roof as fully covered with solar panels, complemented by custom-made glass sections. The Loci project documentation states an installed capacity of 13.72 kWp.
Petit Place in Zwijndrecht — integrated PV in a modular Tiny House
Petit Place is a modular Tiny House of approximately 40 m² next to the water tower in Zwijndrecht. The project demonstrates how PV can become part of a compact architectural housing concept.
RoosRos Architecten describes the project as a fully modular and sustainable Tiny House with an exterior clad in solar panels. According to the project documentation, the system generates approximately 9,000 kWh of energy per year.
The Loci project documentation identifies the PV cladding as an application of the Loci system and states an installed capacity of 12.48 kWp.
Millhome — integrated solar energy in compact timber homes
Loci has also been applied within the Millhome housing concept. Millhome develops compact timber homes in which material use, energy, living quality and architecture are considered as an integrated whole.
The Loci project documentation specifies different installed capacities for the various housing types. The exact configuration and installed capacity therefore vary by house type.
Medemblik — 14 apartments and 8 single-family homes
At Bijltjeshof and Kuipershof in Medemblik, existing homes were replaced with energy-efficient new-build housing. The project comprises 14 apartments and 8 single-family homes.
The project documentation identifies De Woonschakel as the client, TBE-ZA for architecture and technical design, Stabo Bouw Blokker as contractor and Nicee Hoorn as installer.
Midwoud — renovation of 30 homes with an integrated solar roof
Thirty homes on Cornelis Haringhuizenlaan in Midwoud underwent a large-scale renovation. De Woonschakel confirms that the renovation was completed in 2024.
According to the Loci project documentation, the entire roof was fitted with the Loci solar roof during the renovation, replacing conventional roof tiles.
Obdam — nine prefabricated new-build homes
In Obdam, Stabo Bouw constructed nine single-family homes for housing association De Woonschakel. The project made use of various prefabricated building elements.
External project documentation confirms the Stabo Bouw project. The Loci project documentation additionally records the application and technical project details of the integrated solar roof.
Grootebroek — integrated PV in serial housing construction
At Sint Elisabethstraat in Grootebroek, Loci was applied to seven single-family homes. Stabo Bouw constructed the homes for De Woonschakel.
The project demonstrates how integrated PV can be combined with serial housing construction and prefabricated building elements.
Weert — combining Loci with insulated roof elements
An early practical example of system integration is a home on Princenweg in Weert. Here, the integrated Loci solar roof was combined with insulated roof elements from Unilin.
The project documentation identifies Unilin Insulation B.V. and Rebor B.V. as suppliers. The project therefore illustrates an important principle behind Loci: rather than treating PV as a separate component placed on top of the roof, roof construction, insulation and energy generation are approached as one coherent system.
VD Holland in Wervershoof — 140.56 kWp integrated PV
For employee accommodation at VD Holland in Wervershoof, the roof was fully equipped with the Loci solar roof.
With a documented installed capacity of 140.56 kWp, this is one of the larger published Loci references and demonstrates that the system can also be applied to larger roof areas.
Other completed Loci applications
The documented project portfolio also includes a range of applications in residential and other building projects.
In Doornenburg, Project De Beijer involved a complex roof fitted with 107 Loci solar panels and custom solutions around corners and openings. In Noordwijk, both a home and an outbuilding were fitted with integrated PV. In Castricum, Loci formed part of a complete roof renovation, while in Berlicum the system was applied to the outbuilding of a farmhouse. A semi-detached property in Babberich was also completed with an integrated Loci solar roof.
These applications demonstrate how the same system approach can be used across different roof geometries and building types, ranging from individual homes to serial housing construction and larger residential developments.
From research and product development to practical application
The technical background of Loci extends further back than the completed projects shown on this page. The development of integrated solar energy systems around Rebor and René Borro includes Energiedak 2010, the LOCI research project with SEAC and Unilin, the SolarBEAT test installation and other research projects focused on building integration and solar energy.
This research and development history, including external documentation from RVO, TNO, SEAC and Topsector Energie, is documented separately on our Research & Innovation page.
System integration as the common thread
The projects differ significantly in scale and application, but technically the same common thread is visible: solar energy is not approached solely as a separate installation.
With integrated PV, roof covering, waterproofing, dimensions, insulation, ventilation, roof penetrations, electrical installation and architecture must be considered together. Projects such as Bovenkarspel, Weert, Medemblik and Midwoud demonstrate how this system integration has been applied in different building situations.
