The GoodWe GW5000-ES-20 is a single-phase hybrid inverter with a rated output of 5000 VA. Designed for residential PV installations with integrated battery storage. The inverter manages energy flows between the solar panel installation, home battery and electricity grid. With two independent MPPT trackers (range 60–550 V, 99.9% MPPT efficiency), the GW5000-ES-20 maximises self-consumption in every solar panel installation. The maximum charge and discharge current of 120 A each supports rapid energy storage in a connected 48 V Li-Ion battery.

What is a hybrid inverter?

A hybrid inverter combines a solar inverter and battery management in one system. It manages energy flows between the solar panel installation, home battery and electricity grid. Solar energy can be used directly for self-consumption, stored in a battery storage system or fed back into the grid via grid feed-in. GoodWe hybrid inverters are used worldwide in residential PV installations with battery storage.

Technical Operation and Installer Context of the GW5000-ES-20

The GW5000-ES-20 is part of the GoodWe ES G2 series and delivers a hybrid architecture for self-consumption, grid feed-in and backup power in residential PV installations. With a maximum charge and discharge power of 5000 W and 5300 W respectively, the GW5000-ES-20 is suited to larger home battery systems with high charge current requirements. Communication with the battery management system (BMS) uses the CAN protocol. The energy meter communicates via RS485. Passive fanless cooling ensures silent operation and reduced maintenance requirements. The enclosure (505.9 x 434.9 x 154.8 mm, 21.5 kg) is suitable for wall mounting within the PV installation. Standard protection functions include DC surge protection Type II, AC surge protection Type III, anti-islanding, residual current monitoring and PV reverse-polarity protection. Operating range: -25 °C to +60 °C, up to 3000 m altitude.

The GW5000-ES-20 is compatible with 48 V Li-Ion home batteries from Dyness, Pylontech, BYD and GoodWe for use in residential PV installations with battery storage. Does the GW5000-ES-20 support a backup function during grid outages and what are the installation requirements?

Yes. The GW5000-ES-20 supports a backup mode in which, upon grid failure, the connected 48 V home battery continues to supply the PV installation. Maximum discharge power in backup mode is 5300 W. Installation requirements: exclusively 48 V Li-Ion batteries with CAN communication, wall mounting per the supplied mounting plate, and cabling per the supplied DC and AC connectors. Installation must be carried out by a qualified electrician in accordance with applicable national standards for PV installations.
